Back on the street, and ready for ACL
By the end of the summer of 2021 we'd given more than a hundred pedicab tours and had the fleet rebuilt in time for Austin City Limits. After the stretch that came before it, that number meant something to us.
What changed
Open-air transport went from a novelty to the thing people specifically asked for. A pedicab has no doors, no recirculated air and no stranger sitting next to you, and for a good while that was the entire pitch. It brought us a lot of first-time riders who'd lived here for years and never bothered.
The tours side grew fastest. People who weren't ready to travel were rediscovering their own city — the murals, the East Side breweries, the bat flight off the Congress Avenue Bridge at dusk. Small private groups, outdoors, at a pace where you can actually look at things.
Getting ready for ACL
ACL is one of the two weekends that define the Austin pedicab year. The walk between the Zilker Park gates and anywhere you can leave a car is long, and it's longer on the way out, at night, after eight hours on your feet. That's the whole business case in one sentence.
So the fleet went back into the shop and came out ready: cabs checked over, panels prepped for brand work, drivers lined up for both weekends.
